Internal tools & business systems

Admin panels, ops tools, and knowledge systems that replace a dozen spreadsheets and a hundred Slack messages.

The right internal tool gives your team a single, calm place to work. We build focused admin panels, intake forms, and approval flows, and we set up the business systems around them: Notion workspaces with relational databases and dashboards, documented processes, and the operational infrastructure a growing team runs on.

Internal tools fail when they're built like enterprise software: too big, too slow, designed for a committee. We build the opposite. Small, sharp tools around one workflow, shipped in weeks, refined with the people who actually use them.

Systems work matters as much as software. We designed and built Connect Upward's own operating workspace in Notion: six relational databases with linked views and dashboards covering clients, projects, pipeline, and finances. We set up the same kind of system for client teams, a knowledge base and operating layer that survives employee turnover.

The usual arc: an intake form replaces an email thread, an approval flow replaces a Slack scramble, a dashboard replaces the Monday status meeting. Each piece is small; together they change how the team runs.

What you get

  • Admin panels and operations tools built around your workflow
  • Intake forms and approval flows
  • Notion workspace design: relational databases, dashboards, linked views
  • Process documentation and knowledge-base setup
  • Requirements gathering and workflow assessment before anything is built

Good fit when

  • Operations runs through email threads and shared spreadsheets
  • Onboarding a new hire takes weeks of tribal-knowledge transfer
  • You can't answer 'what's the status of X?' without asking three people

Questions

Do you build in Notion/Airtable or write custom tools?

Both, and the honest answer about which you need is part of discovery. Notion and Airtable are right for most team workflows; custom tools win when you need real access control, customer-facing surfaces, or logic those platforms can't express.

How do you make sure the team actually uses the new system?

We build with the team, not for them: the people doing the work review each iteration, and training and documentation ship with the tool. Adoption is designed in, not hoped for.
